The path a real customer takes
They search. They see your ad. They do not call it — they scroll to the map, look at your listing, check the rating, read two reviews, look at a photo, and then call.
You paid for the ad. The profile closed it. If the profile is thin, out of date, or missing photos, you paid for a click that went to a competitor with a better listing.
What that means for your numbers
A weak profile shows up in your ad account as a poor conversion rate, which gets diagnosed as an ad problem. New copy gets written, bids get adjusted, and nothing improves, because the leak is one step downstream of the thing being optimized.
This is one of the most common misdiagnoses in local paid search.
The profile checklist that affects paid performance
Correct categories, primary one chosen deliberately. Every service listed individually. Hours accurate including holidays. Real photos, recent, at least a dozen. Service area matching your ad targeting. Reviews with something from the last month. Questions answered by you rather than strangers.
None of this is clever and all of it is checkable in twenty minutes.
Run them together
Same service names in your ads and your profile. Same offer. Same service area. When your ad promises same-day service and your profile says closed, you have bought a contradiction.
And add local service ads where they exist for your category — they sit above everything, they lean on your profile and reviews, and they are frequently cheaper per lead than standard search.
